WELCOME!! The YMCA is proud to be organizing another series of World Camps,
to be held in 1998 in nine (9) regions of the United States. World Camp was
begun in 1985 as part of the YMCA's celebration of 100 years of organized
camping. World Camps have since been held in 1988, 1991, and 1994. You are
invited to browse and learn more about the upcoming World Camp for the
Great Lakes - Mid-America Region, including additional details on what is
being planned, who can participate, how your local Y can get involved, and
where you can get more information.
This program will be for 18-25 year olds, half from the United States and
half from countries around the world. Overseas campers will stay first with
host families from your YMCA for a week of working and learning the programs
of your local YMCA. Then your international guest and your U.S. young adult
travel to the Great Lakes Regional World Camp location at YMCA Camp Potawotami
near Fort Wayne, IN. At World Camp, your campers will join with 120 young
adults from around the world and from the states in our Great Lakes region.
The World Camp program will consist of the following components:

WHY GET INVOLVED?
Make a decision to participate! This will involve sponsoring an overseas
participant and a US participant from your local YMCA. We will have
international campers for you to sponsor if you don't have overseas
partnerships. Funding, including transportation, is usually shared by the
camper, the overseas YMCA and your local YMCA.
